Our executive consulting teams are lead by:
Tom Love, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Love has been involved in leading edge software engineering projects since the mid-1970’s. For the past year, Dr. Love led a ShouldersCorp team of highly qualified professionals to do an assessment of the feasibility and risks associated with the planned reengineering of the VistA system for the CIO of Veterans Health Administration. He has held significant technical and management positions in companies such as GE, ITT, IBM and Morgan Stanley. As a VP of IBM consulting, he won and managed a major project to develop a Computerized Medical Record system for a 900-bed medical center. He also was responsible for designing and implementing an assessment center selection process for new IBM consultants. In the past 9 years he has had direct on-site management responsibility for 5 significant Web based development projects – all of which were delivered on time, on spec and on budget – the largest of which involved a team of 175. Many lessons learned are recorded in his Cambridge University book, Object Lessons: lessons learned from object-oriented development projects. Dr. Love has also published a series of well regarded papers on software metrics, estimation techniques and human factors beginning in the 1970’s. He founded the first company selling object-oriented development tools and organized the meeting which led to ACM’s OOPSLA conference, the largest annual conference devoted to object technology. Dr. Love is a founder of the Worldwide Institute of Software Architects (WWISA) and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington where he studied the characteristics of successful computer programmers.
John Wooten, Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Wooten is an experienced, hands-on architect, object-oriented designer and developer. During the last year, Dr. Wooten was responsible for a comprehensive software metrics project for VHA as well as an architectural audit of the HealtheVet architecture. In the past 9 years, he has been the chief architect for 9 Web-based development projects. The projects have ranged from a 45 day proof of concept to a 3 year major development project involving 175 people, 1856 Java classes, and tens of millions of users. More recently Dr. Wooten has been involved with the design and development of a portal system for US Customs and Border Protection. He currently is providing technical advice to the Military Health Service for projects that involve sharing images and clinical data between the Veterans Health Administration and the Department of Defense. Dr. Wooten is an early member of the Worldwide Institute of Software Architects (WWISA). Dr. Wooten earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Nebraska.
Bob Stults, Director, Healthcare Systems
Mr. Stults is a professionally trained architect who became involved with early high-end CAD systems to support architects. For the past year he has been developing a comprehensive understanding of the underlying business processes in a selection of clinical areas in a dozen or so VA Medical Centers and community based out patient clinics. His "field maps" provide a comprehensive description of the process of delivering healthcare and can be used as input to a workflow engine to assist in the reengineering of the VistA system. Earlier in his career he spent almost 10 years at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, where he did research on Rich Media Services. After Xerox he spent a decade designing and developing leading edge applications and systems for a variety of prominent clients in the New York City area - especially telecom companies. He was responsible for understanding the real requirements of users of a modernized Customs and Border Protection system and designing a state of the art Selectivity and Targeting System. Mr. Stults holds a BS degree from Yale and a MS degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Christine Brautigam, Director, Consulting Services
Ms. Brautigam is an expert in leadership, management, and process improvements associated with software systems development projects. She has over 20 years of experience in large government contracting projects, medium commercial companies, and start-ups. She has extensive knowledge of and experience with software process improvement. She has worked with the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI's) models since the early nineties and has achieved substantial strides in organizational maturity at Martin Marietta and StorageTek. This work led her to become a professional project manager (PMP) and certified Scrum master (CSM). Ms. Brautigam led large development teams at IBM and small Agile teams at BEA Systems. In 2003 she brought her industry experience to academia where she created and taught "Managing Outsourced Development" and "The Truth about Software Outsourcing", based on the PMBOK and Software Acquisition CMM, as well as "Metrics for Managers". While Ms. Brautigam is an expert in cutting edge software process theory, she is primarily interested in improving the practice of software development. Her bias is for software professionals to focus on the business of the overall organization. Ms. Brautigam holds a BS-Industrial and Operations Engineering degree from the University of Michigan and a MS-IT degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
